One Year of Empties Pt. II

About 10 months ago I posted about my empties from the course of a year here. My intention was to do another empties post after a year, but I have used up a lot of stuff and found myself running out of room to store all of my trash. So, I made the decision to accelerate this post by a couple of months. Thus, in full disclosure, this is more like 10 months of empties. Like last year, I've photographed my items by category. I won't discuss every product, because: boring. And also because a lot are repeats of last year. But I'll hit the highlights.

The category I'm most proud of is skincare. I found a few holy grail items this year and used up a lot of full size products. I've already repurchased the Tata Harper Purifying Cleanser for a third time, and I've also got another Indie Lee Brightening Cleanser, which I love using with my Clarisonic. The Pixi Glow Tonic was another product I really enjoyed, and I can see why it's a cult classic. I will probably repurchase once I use up some other toners. And I literally cannot see myself ever living with Sunday Riley Good Genes. I'm almost done with a second bottle, and have a third on reserve.

The May Coop Raw Sauce was ok, but I don't think it made a big difference to my skin. The Sarah Chapman Skinesis Overnight Facial was another meh product. I loved it when I first got it (maybe around three years ago...don't judge!) but I have since found other oils and serums I much prefer (like Sunday Riley Luna) so I can't see myself repurchasing. I do see myself repurchasing both the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster and the Tatcha Supple Moisture Rich Silk Cream, although I do want to try the new Tatcha Pore Perfecting Water Gel first.

I worked my way through a lot of hair care samples this year, my favourite being the Bumble & Bumble Surf Shampoo and Conditioner. I worked through another can of the Bumble & Bumble Thickening Dryspun Finish. I bought a travel size of the Dry Bar Triple Sec to compare, but I found that I prefer the Bumble & Bumble for adding texture and volume to my hair. I also stuck with my Living Proof Ph.D. 5-in-1 Styling Treatment, an old fave, and used up a few deluxe samples.

In the shower, I fell in love with the Acure Cell Stimulating Body Wash, which replaced my Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Body Scrub. I mainly use it to prevent any blemishes on my back. I also love the Nivea In Shower Lotion and the L'Occitane Almond Shower Oil for adding moisture, especially after shaving my legs. Babyfoot is both amazing and disgusting, and I experimented with shaving my face (aka 'microblading) with the Tinkle Razors (bought on Amazon). I didn't have a bad experience with the razors by any means, but I'm on the fence about whether I think the effort is worth it for me!

2016 was the year of the sheet mask for me and basically everyone else on the planet. For the most part I find all sheet masks are pretty much the same. But if I had to pick a favorite from those I used, I would have to go with the Boscia Tsubaki Oil Deep Hydration Hydrogel Mask. For more noticeable results, however, I will be sticking with more traditional masks.

I also worked through a lot of skincare samples, which was a particular goal of mine (along with using up perfume samples, the results of which you will see below). The Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peels are fantastic for exfoliation and overnight results! The sample of the Belif The True Cream Aqua Bomb prompted me to buy it in full size, which I've almost used up. I also really enjoyed the Korres Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser.  Despite having the word 'foaming' in the title, I don't find that this strips the skin and it works well with the Clarisonic.

These are the results of my effort to use up my many, many perfume samples. This has meant that I have ignored most of my full size perfumes, but I think it has been worth it to work through some of my stash of samples. I have loved Lancôme La Vie Est Belle for years, but still haven't taken the plunge on a full size. The same goes for the Carven Le Parfum. YSL Black Opium is one that I have loved in the past, so I already have a purse size spray bottle, but nonetheless used up the sample. Commodity Moss was interesting, and even though I didn't like it enough to buy, it makes me want to try other Commodity scents. I used up my full size Gucci Guilty in 2015, and this sample reminded me why I love it so much. The only two scents that I disliked so much I didn't use the entire vial are Estée Lauder Modern Muse and Lancôme Trésor. Both were way too heavy and old lady for my taste.

Makeup-wise, my empties are mascara heavy, which is pretty typical given that I have such a large collection that it's hard to use up items. I did finish my Jouer Matte Moisture Tint. I had fallen out of love with this because it was too heavy for my taste, but I found that applying it with a beauty blender sheered it out enough that I fell back in love. I haven't repurchased because I have at least 10 other foundations I'm working on, but perhaps one day I will. Another great achievement was using up by By Terry Baume de Rose. I doubt I will repurchase this (it's $60), but it was very nice to use. I've already almost finished up another Anastasia Brow Wiz in Dark Brown and the same goes for the Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara. As for mascaras, I loved the Tarte Lights, Camera, Splashes and the Too Faced Better Than Sex. I've bought full sizes of both. I hated the Maybelline Lash Sensational and do not understand the hype around this product.

Rounding out the products, I went through a bunch of cotton rounds. I love the Shiseido Cotton, but I can only access that when I take trips back to the U.S. so I generally use whatever I find in my local store. I was thrilled that Bath and Body Works started making their Peppermint Marshmallow candles (now under the name Joy). In terms of lotions, the Lollia Hand Cream in Wish is the best smelling thing ever. I've noticed that Nordstrom is selling a bubble bath in the same scent and I am going to get my hands on that!

Whew! That was a lot of empties and I'm excited to see what I have next year. I'm going to continue to try to work through sample items, as I have an obscene amount! Have you used any of these products? What empties have you used up recently?
