YSL Kiss & Blush

L to R: YSL Babydoll Kiss & Blush 01 Fuchsia Desinvolte, 04 Orange Fougueux
This past Valentine's Day I received a very exciting email from YSL: for the first 50 people only, YSL was offering the opportunity to purchase two shades of their new Babydoll Kiss & Blush color for lips and cheeks. Being the impulsive shopper that I am, I immediately leapt at the opportunity to be one of the first 50(!!) people to get their hands on this new product. The package arrived a few days later with some lovely extras and a hand written note congratulating me on getting one of these sneak peaks....

...And then I let them sit untouched in the box for approximately the next 3 months.

I cannot totally justify why I was so apathetic about the Kiss & Blushes that I bought. Perhaps it was because neither of the shades would have been my top choices if the whole line had been available for purchase. I think it is also because I assumed that the product would be really watery and hard to use. And I most definitely did not believe that they would be functional on both the lips and the cheeks. In my experience, products with such claims always fall short!

Whatever the reason for my hesitancy, I am ready to hold my hands up and fully admit that I could not have been more wrong about the YSL Kiss & Blush formula. It isn't watery at all-it's actually a bit creamy-and I find it super easy to apply to both the lips and cheeks. Plus, it is gorgeously pigmented and long-lasting.

01 Fuchsia Desinvolte is a cool fuchsia tone that doesn't pull too purple. 04 Orange Fougueux is a straight up true orange. Matching cheeks and lips is a big beauty trend at the moment, and this product makes that a breeze. I've never tried the matchy-matchy look before, but I am truly loving it.

If I had to pick a favorite, I think the edge would go to Fuchsia Desinvolte. I really love the way the color looks on both my lips and cheeks. Orange Fougueux is gorgeous, but I think it works better on my lips and not so much on my cheeks because of my skintone. I've swatched a number of other shades from the line and all of the colors are consistently gorgeous. That is great news for YSL, as they've really got a winning product here, but bad news for my wallet!

Some reviewers have commented that they find the Kiss & Blush difficult to apply as a blush. I feel quite the opposite--I dab a bit onto my cheeks and then blend it out with my finger. I'm sure a stippling brush would work well, too, if you're less inclined to apply with your fingers. The colors are quite bold, so go easy at first with your application. The colors both build nicely, so better to start off slow, than to put too much on.

They are also easy to apply as a lip color. No need for any lip liners and both of these shades apply evenly in one coat. The shape of the applicator is quite unique. The tapered end makes it easy to get a clean edge on the lips and the unusual dip in the middle of the applicator ensures that the right amount of product is dispensed each time.

04 Orange Fougueux
Unusually for a YSL product, I don't notice that these have any pronounced scent. As a blush, these both lasted on me all day. As a lip product, they also had better than average staying power, lasting somewhere like 5 hours on me before I had to really touch up. The finish is somewhat satiny. As a blush, it does not dry down to a powdery finish, but stays with a cream finish that is ever so slightly tacky to the touch. One downside that I do want to mention is that while the Kiss & Blushes feel very moisturizing and creamy on the lips, I do notice that they cause my lips to dry out. I normally wake up the day after wearing in need of exfoliating my lips! That's easily remedied, though, with a quick lip scrub in the shower!

Have you tried the YSL Kiss & Blush colors yet? Which shades are your favorites? I think either 02 Rose Frivole or 03 Rose Libre will be my next purchase!
