May has been a hectic month for me and only a few products have stood out to me recently. I've recently ordered an assortment of new products, though, so I expect to have a bumper crop of June favorites! Here are the gems that have made the cut over the past few weeks, though.
Bumble and Bumble Dryspun Finish: I first picked this up last autumn and immediately fell in love with it. A spritz through my hair after I've styled it gives me extra volume and bit more hold, without the crispiness of hairspray. My one complaint is that I went through the bottle relatively quickly, so out of spite (and a desire to use up some other products) I didn't immediately repurchase. But I finally caved and repurchased it, and my love for Dryspun Finish has now been confirmed. The very first time I used my new bottle, a friend asked if I had gone for a professional blowout. Flattery wins me over every time, and I've now resolved to never go without Dryspun Finish again.
Givenchy Le Rouge 306 Carmin Escarpin: Despite the Givenchy Le Rouge line earning almost universal rave reviews upon its release, I initially shied away from these lipsticks because a) they're $36 a pop, and b) I had no way of swatching them in person. Curiosity eventually got the best of me, however, and I ordered Carmin Escarpin, which is described as a warm poppy red. The texture of this lipstick is out of this world. It is creamy, yet not too thick on the lips and feels so comfortable and moisturizing that I would forget I was wearing lipstick, if it weren't for the intense punch of color Carmin Escarpin gives. Seriously, if you are a lipstick lover, you must give the Le Rouge line a try.
Nails Inc. Gel Effect Polish in St. James: St. James is a lovely true red (I think of it as a 'telephone box red') with a slightly pearly finish. While the color is one of my favorites in my collection, it is the lasting power of this nail polish that really seals the deal. It is part of the wave of polishes that apply like a normal polish, but mimic the shine and lasting power of a gel manicure. I normally can't keep a polish on my nails for more than two days without them chipping like crazy, regardless of basecoat/topcoat/etc. But this polish regularly lasts for up to a week on my nails with nary a chip. High shine, glossy, and long lasting? What more could a girl ask for?
Ole Henriksen Lemon Strip Flash Peel: I rarely see people discuss this product, but it claims to 'resurface, refine pores, and soften the look of lines'. I picked it up on a bit of whim as I love exfoliating products for my skin. I have large pores and my skin has been going a bit crazy lately, so I wanted something a bit more powerful than my normal exfoliating mask (which is the REN Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask). I find that the Lemon Strip Flash Peel makes a fairly noticeable difference to the brightness and tone of my skin after I use it. But it does tingle (even sting?) a fair bit upon first application, which few other products do as I have quite robust skin.
Perrier: I know, I know, this is a weird one, but hear me out. I gave up pop last year (Diet Coke was really the only pop I drank) and while I don't miss it, I did miss having something fizzy to drink when still water becomes a bit boring. Perrier, or any sparkling water really, fills that gap perfectly. Sparkling water is a bit of an acquired taste for some, but I find it incredibly refreshing. And with the increasing number of studies that show how harmful to the body even 'diet' sodas are, switching it out for something better for you is a no brainer.
Lancôme Lip Lover in 336 Orange Manège: Manège means Merry-Go-Round, and I think that name is perfect for this gorgeous color. I've never seen another color quite like this, it is a beautiful pinky orange that suits my fair and cool skin, but I also think it will look stunning on darker or more tan complexions. The consistency of the Lip Lovers is another reason to fawn over this product. It is not sticky, but it is long lasting and very comfortable to wear. Of all of the lipstick/gloss hybrids that have been released in recent months, this is by far my favorite.
What are your must have products for May? Have you tried any of these?
