Orange lips are definitely having a moment right now (for me, at least). Orange was never a color I thought I could pull off, given that I am both fair and cool-toned. But I have learned how wrong that assumption was and I now can't stop buying orange lipsticks and glosses! And with the huge variety of shades and finishes out there, I'm convinced that there is an orange lip out there for everyone. Lancôme Lip Lover in Orange Manège is the perfect shade for someone who wants to dip their toe in the orange waters, but is more comfortable with a more traditional pink or red color on the lips.
Orange Manège (which charmingly means Orange Merry-Go-Round) is an orange with strong pinky red undertones. On me, it is more prominently orange when first applied, but my lips quickly pull out the pink tones. It is a stunning and unique shade. I have zero doubt that I will be wearing this all summer long. I think it suits my pale skin at the moment, but I think it will look even more lovely once I've gotten to spend some time outdoors and have a bit more of a tan.
My love for Orange Manège goes way beyond the beautiful color, however, as the formula is easily one of my favorites ever. That is a bold claim for a lip junkie like me, but it truly is fantastic. There have been a number of gloss/lipstick hybrids released over the past could of years (from YSL and Dior to L'Oreal, Maybelline, and Revlon) but I am confident that this formula is the best of the bunch.
Orange Manège is wonderfully pigmented and applies with a beautiful glossy finish, but I find that it doesn't feel like a gloss on the lips. And by that I mean that it is not sticky. Not at all. It feels creamy and–dare I say–moisturizing on the lips. And although the wear time isn't spectacular (it lasts around 3-4 hours on me before needing a touch up), because it's so pigmented, it leaves a nice color to the lips and fades pretty evenly.
I really do love this product, and have already ordered a second shade (Framboise Étoile) and am contemplating a third purchase already. The color and finish simply of this simply cannot be beat. And at $23 a pop, the Lip Lovers are one of the more reasonably priced high-end versions of the lipstick/gloss hybrid. Available at Lancôme counters and Sephora.
