The Lipstick Tag

My mid- and high-end lipsticks
I recently started reading a beautiful beauty blog Life, Set Sail. The blog's creator, Brittany, takes exceptional photos and I love the aesthetic of her blog. She recently featured 'The Lipstick Tag' on her blog, which inspired me to do one of my own!

In the interest of full disclosure and in giving advanced warning, I am a total sucker for lip products. While my biggest downfall is lipglosses, I do love a good lipstick and I own an obscene number of them. With that said, here we go:

1. How many lipsticks do you own?
If I exclude any lip glosses/lip pencils/lip stains/lip balms, I own 63 lipsticks (with one more currently en route). A couple of these are quite old and I wouldn't wear them, but I've held on to them for sentimental reasons.

2. What was the first lipstick you owned?
I grew up in dance, so I was wearing a full face of slap for recitals and performances from about the age of four onwards. I can't remember the exact shade we used back then, but I know it was something red by Revlon. I also developed a thing for Bonne Bell lipsmackers in a big way during my early childhood. But the first lipstick I remember buying was Maybelline Champagne Punch.

3. What is your favorite lipstick brand?
This is like a Sophie's Choice level dilemma for me. Until recently, I would have probably said that I love Dior the most for lipstick. But my world was turned upside down with the discover of Too Faced La Crème lipsticks. They are so pigmented, so creamy, and so very comfortable to wear. I think they've pipped every other brand to the post.

4. What is your most worn lipstick?
That would most likely be my Dior Addict Extreme in 316 Incognito. It is a beautiful neutral shade that doesn't make me look corpsey (which is difficult given my pigmented lips), it has a nice sheen to it, and it is great for wearing under a huge range of lipglosses.

5. What is your favorite finish?
Traditionally, my favorites have had either cream or satin finishes, but recently I have been all about the mattes. Because my lips are quite heart shaped, wearing a bold red or berry can look a bit silly or drawn on if the finish isn't right. I find that a matte finish makes such strong colors look chic, not tacky.

6. What was the last lipstick you bought?
That would be Tom Ford Wild Ginger (which is the aforementioned lipstick that is en route to me as I write).

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag?
I literally just cleaned out my makeup bag, so I have a very reasonable number (Dior's Creme de Rose balm, a Le Métier de Beauté Creme Gloss in Fraise, Laura Mercier Stickgloss in Rosewater, and Poppy King for No. 7 lipgloss in Confidence). A while back I did a count and had some 20 lip products in my handbag, which is obscene. And typical, if you're me.

8. What is your favorite red lip color?
I recently found Bite Beauty's High Pigment Pencil in Cranberry, which is a stunning red and a beautiful formula. I also love Giorgio Armani Rouge d'Armani 408, which is a very flattering brick red. Almay's Liquid Lip Balm in Apple-a-Day is another (less dramatic) favorite red.

9. How do you store your lipsticks?
Like in the picture above (the picture is out of date, but the idea is still the same). I think this is a bathroom storage container that I picked up at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I use one section for drugstore lipsticks & balms, one for glosses, and one for high end lipsticks, pencils, & stains. This isn't the most organized system, as sometimes I have to rummage through a section to find the product I'm looking for, but given the huge variation in size and shape of the different lipsticks I own, I don't see a more conventional lipstick storage container working for me.

10. Which lipsticks are you currently lusting after?
I'd like to try out one of the new(ish) Urban Decay Revolution lipsticks and something from the Givenchy Le Rouge line (I've heard nothing but rave reviews about these). I'd also like to pick up Giorgio Armani Rouge Ecstasy in 105 Ambiguous, Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Dialogue, and the Dior Addict in 680 Millie (solely because my cat is named Millie!) The new Tom Ford Lip Conditioners for Spring 2014 are also looking mighty tempting!

I tag anyone and everyone to do this tag. If you do it, please leave me the link to your post below! And don't forget to follow me on Bloglovin', Twitter and Instagram.
