Love It or Toss It? #1

After seeing a number of 'Love it or Toss It' posts from the wonderful bloggers Bronzer Bunny and Gummy, I decided to join them in a quest to either learn to love the neglected products in my stash--or to give them the old heave ho! I really enjoyed the process of testing out a selection of products I've owned for quite a while (years, in some cases) but have not used in a long time. Hopefully this will become a recurring feature on my blog, healping me to get rid of the products that I just don't love.

MAC Cream Blush in Florida
MAC Cream Blush in Florida: I'm not much of a MAC fan, but I was seduced by several of their products that came out in the Shop/Cook collection in 2012 (I think?) including this cream blush in the color Florida. Florida is a bright, fuschia blush. I'm not one to shy away from bold blushes, but this one just doesn't do anything special for me. I don't think the color is especially flattering on my NW20ish skin. I applied this with my fingers, rather than with a brush, and it was a bit of a challenge to not end up with clown face as this blush is über-pigmented. All in all, I have many other cream blushes that I much, much prefer.

Verdict: Toss!

Etude House Fresh Cherry Lip Tint in RD301

Etude House Fresh Cherry Lip Tint in RD301: Etude House is a popular Asian drugstore brand and I picked this up off of Ebay about a year ago after I had asked for recommendations for a product that would give me a 'just eaten a bowl of cherries' look. On the lips (at least, on my lips) it's a bit more pink, rather than the red I was hoping for. But the formulation is great--not at all drying, fairly long lasting, giving good pigmentation without being totally opaque. I don't know why this hasn't gotten more love from me. I think it's a result of having too many lip products. I aim to change that over the coming months and to give this product plenty of attention.

Verdict: Love!

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey: While Clinique was arguably the first to make a chubby lip crayon, Revlon popularized the concept for the drugstore (setting the way for virtually every single brand to copy the idea and produce their own version). Honey seems to be the most popular shade, producing a 'My Lips But Better' look for most wearers. On me, however, it applies as an unflattering mauve shade, and quickly turns bright fuchsia. I also find the texture a bit uncomfortable on my lips and it doesn't have great staying power, either.

Verdict: Toss!

Lancome Le Crayon Kohl in No Doubts

Lancôme Le Crayon Kôhl in No Doubts: As you can tell from the photo above, this eyeliner has been around the block. I am not sure exactly how old it is, but my best guess is somewhere around 13 years. But, being that it's a pencil eyeliner, it is still going strong and there's nothing actually wrong with it. This fell into disuse as I grew out of my teen years, when I constantly sported purple eyeshadow with purple comment. Not helping matters is the fact that I rarely, if ever, wear eyeliner. But this color is beautiful and as I've discovered over the course of the past few weeks, it gives an unexpected pop of color with a neutral eye (it looks stunning with Tom Ford's Orchid Haze featured here).

Verdict: Love!

R to L: MAC Florida, Lancôme No Doubts, Etude House Fresh Cherry Lip Tint, Revlon Honey
Overall, this batch was a 50:50 split--two of the products I loved, and two I am going to toss (aka give away to friends or possibly save for a future blog sale). I had a lot of fun with this 'experiment' and have already picked out a few products for my second Love It or Toss It? series!

Are you working on sorting through your stash to find products you don't use often enough?

  1. What a great idea! I definitely should work through my stash. Etude house ip tint looks gorgeous <3 xo Kelly

  2. Yay yay for love it or toss it!!! Thank you for the mention!!! I'm so glad you were able to purge a couple of things...every little bit helps and it's so nice to rediscover things you love but haven't used in awhile :-) I tried a few of the revlon just bitten things and none of the colors looked good on me either. Ended up giving them to a friend and she likes them though!

  3. I love cream blushes! Maybe you should keep it for your kit! You may have a client that it would look nice on! Just a thought! Great post!
