No Brushes? No Problem!

This morning I decided to undertake a thorough cleanse of my makeup brushes. I've been travelling a lot this summer and was subletting my apartment, so upon my return, I decided that it would be blasphemous to put away dirty brushes. I may have been a bit overly ambitious, however, as this left me with virtually no brushes to apply my makeup today.

Clean, but damp brushes.
Luckily, being that it's a Sunday, I don't normally bother to put on much makeup. But it lead me to think about how I could apply a full face of makeup without any brushes whatsoever. This is the result. Here are a few ideas of products you can use without brushes, whether it's because you are mid-wash or you're travelling and don't want the bulk of brushes, or if you simply don't own any! For many of the products, this is my preferred method of application, even if I did have brushes available.

For the base, I went with the new L'Oreal Nude Magic Liquid Powder foundation, which I've been testing out to see if it is a dupe for the Giorgio Armani Maestro foundation. It comes pretty darn close at a fraction of the price, I must say. It's definitely light coverage, but it's buildable where you need it. I've also used the MAC Studio Studio Finish Concealer. While most people use a brush for any type of concealing, I normally don't as I find the warmth of fingers makes this concealer blend into the skin more seamlessly.

On the cheeks, I would go for either a Becca Beach Tint (here the shade is Watermelon) or the Too Faced Full Bloom Lip & Cheek Colour (in Prim & Poppy). Both of these products are very pigmented, but go on easily and smoothly with a finger application. While there are some cream/gel cheek products that I prefer to use a stippling brush with (like the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Cheek Gelees), these can be used either way! For a highlighter, either the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone or the Jemma Kidd Make Up Dewy All Over Radiance Creme in Iced Gold are beautiful. Jemma Kidd Make Up is now discontinued, but if you can find one of these highlighters in either Iced Gold or Rose Gold, snatch them up! You won't regret it. Becca is more accessible and their Shimmering Skin Perfectors (available in 4 shades) are some of their most popular products. A little goes a long, long, long way, though, so go easy on the application. The upside of that is a full size will last you years, decades even.

For eyes, I often use the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin without any shadow or color on top. It gives a lovely pinky champagne glow to the lids that looks super natural and fresh, which is usually the look I go for during the summer months. If you do want to throw some color on top of the primer, the Eyeko Fat Eye Sticks are beautiful and foolproof, but any cream shadow will do, really!

Rounding out the look is Korres Cherry Full Color Gloss in Natural 33. This Korres glosses have a great consistency--long lasting, but not in the slightest bit sticky or drying. Natural 33 is a perfect natural lip color for me and I don't need to layer it over a lipstick to get a good effect. But the world is your oyster here, as I find that most lip products can be applied without a lip brush, apart from very dark or very bright shades.

Are you a brush junkie, or do you normally shy away? What are your favorite products to apply with just your fingers?
